Vintage Monopoly 1937 Black Box & Board with Metal Tokens Wood Houses and Hotels This listing is for the Monopoly - A Parker Trading Game (U.S. Patents 1,509,312-2,026,082). I believe this is the 1937 Black Box version with metal pieces, wooden houses, and Bakelite dice. This particular box includes two patents. The first (1,509,312) expired in 1940 and no longer appears on the box thereafter. You can also see reference to an office in London (along with Salem & New York), which closed in 1940 as well. In 1937, the subtitle "A Parker Trading Game" was added to the boxes. Lastly, the inclusion of metal pieces also dates this game to before the start of World War II, when metal resources were scarce. It is also important to note that a 1935 copyright was included on the money in many versions of this game spanning into the mid forties. One might assume that any version with a 1935 date is in fact a 1935 game, which is why the dating methods have been included. This is a very nice example of this 77 year old version of Monopoly. This game seems to to be complete other than 1 missing hotel and 2 twenty dollar bills. The box and board show some signs of wear and damage. The box has some foxing on the front. The cards and money have minor stains throughout. There are a few bends in the cards.
